In the framework of the research project ''The Patterns of the Circulation of Scientific Knowledge in the Kingdom of Hungary, 1770–1830'', a team of six researchers has been focusing on seven fields of knowledge ''(history; classical philology – aesthetics; the history of philosophy; political sciences – statistics; ethnology – anthropology; medicine; economics – agricultural sciences)'', investigating how and through which personal, institutional, and media channels the different types of knowledge were transformed into scientific disciplines. The formation of the disciplines in Hungary in the decades at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was fundamentally determined by the European transfers of knowledge of varying intensity and width. The external influences, mainly from Göttingen and other educational centres in Vienna, Germany, and England and from alternative scientific communities, and their internal adaptation to the social, political, cultural, ethnic, and religious conditions of Hungary, contributed significantly to the reorganisation of the world of science. The present anthology offers a representative selection of sources from the seven fields to demonstrate the diverse paths of scholars, the epistemic arenas, the scientific methods and practices, and the ways of sharing knowledge.
